Amelia REEVES Obituary
REEVES, Amelia Amelia Padgett Reeves, 78 - Teacher, Avid writer, Nature Lover Amelia Padgett Reeves, aged 78, died peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on January 29, 2014. A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Sunday at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home and Crematory in Marietta with Rev. Scott Brown and Rev. Jeff Vermilya officiating. Interment will be in Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA. Amelia was born October 1, 1935 in Dearborn Heights, MI, the only child of Lottie Amelia Boice, a Michigan native, and William Perry Padgett of Rome, GA. Soon after, Bill and Lottie returned to his hometown, where Amelia was raised. Amelia graduated from Pepperell High School in Lindale, GA in 1953 and then went on to graduate from Georgia Women's College with a degree in early childhood education. She taught at Midway Elementary School in Rome, Northwest Fulton Elementary School in Crabapple, GA and Kimball Bridge Elementary School in Alpharetta, GA. On June 27, 1964, Amelia married Wayne B. Reeves of Kingston, GA who she had met years earlier at Shorter College in Rome. They settled in Marietta, GA where Wayne was employed at the Lockheed Georgia Company. In 1966, Wayne and Amelia started their own family, going on to have three boys to whom she dedicated herself. She continued to teach until 1973, when she left the field to focus on the new family printing business that she managed until 1986. Amelia never lost her thirst for knowledge or her love of teaching. She was an avid writer of poetry and short stories about her childhood, children, grandchildren, pets and others who were dear to her. She shared this passion, along with her passions for nature and animals, with her children, grandchildren and friends. We will cherish these writings and memories, always. Amelia loved all the beauty found in nature and spent much of her time exploring it with her children and grandchildren. She found much beauty in the setting sun, the leaves in autumn, starry nights and walks in the woods throughout the year. During the last years of her life, she made many trips back to Rome, where her son John built his home on her old homestead. This allowed her the opportunity to reminisce about the many special times she had growing up on the property, enjoying the woods, hollow, creek and pond all over again. Driving her grandchildren around the property in her golf cart on a beautiful day or night was very special to her and she savored every moment. Amelia is survived by her loving husband of nearly 50 years, Wayne B. Reeves, Sr., her sons Wayne Boyd Reeves, Jr., William Leonard Reeves, John Griffin Reeves, Sr. and his wife Barbara Reeves. She is also survived by her grandchildren Wayne B. Reeves III (Trey), Aaron Reeves, Dylan Reeves, their mother Melanie Reeves and John Griffin Reeves, Jr. Family will receive friends 12:30 to 2:00 pm Sunday prior to the service. www.mayeswarddobbins.com 770-428-1511
