Norma McLENDON Obituary
Norma Elaine Fields McLendon, 81, of College Park, Ga., passed away March 19 after several years of declining health. Norma was retired from the Atlanta Board of Education. She taught English and journalism at Sylvan Hills High School, and was a long-time advisor to the student newspaper and later served as yearbook advisor. An East Point native and daughter of the late David A. and Nellie McLeroy Fields, Norma was a graduate of College Park High School. She attended Georgia State University, where she was co-editor of The Signal student newspaper. After transferring to the University of Georgia, she pledged Alpha Gamma Delta sorority and graduated with a degree in education in 1955. Norma also worked in accounts payable at Rich's Department Store in Downtown Atlanta for many years. Norma is survived by her husband of 58 years, Bobby R. McLendon; daughter, Wendi Pruett and her husband Ken of Suwanee; granddaughter, Savannah; and two special nieces, Linda McLendon Dickerson and Marjorie McLendon Stanley, who offered much love and assistance. Funeral Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 22, in the Parrott Funeral Home Chapel with The Reverend Dennis Harris officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 10 a.m. prior to the service. Interment will follow at College Park Cemetery.
