BARNETT, Jr., Brady BRADY BARNETT, JR. Mr. Brady Barnett, Jr. of N.W. Atlanta, passed away on Mar. 25, 2014. A Loving Farewell In Tribute to Brady Barnett, Jr. will be held on Tue., April 1, 2014 @ 11am at Shaw Temple A. M. E. Zion Church, 775 Hurt Rd., SW; Smyrna, GA (30082), Rev. Dr. George D. Crenshaw, pastor. His body will lie instate starting at 9:00 am. Family and friends are asked to assemble at the Church ,starting @ 10:30 am on the day of service. Interment: with honors , Ga. National Military Cemetery, Canton, GA. Brady was born in Carlton, GA. He graduated from Blackwell Memorial High School in 1953. After graduating, he served in the U. S. Army ,including duty in the Korean War. After the Army, he continued his education at Clark College. Mr. Brady Barnett, Jr. began an illustrious 50-year real estate career by working for W. T. Robie Realty Company. In 1968 he established his own firm Brady Barnett, Jr Realty Co. where he worked until his health declined. He was appointed as the first African American appraiser, in the Southeast U. S., by the V.A. Administration. In 1973, Atlanta Mayor, Sam Massell, appointed Brady to serve as Alderman 9th Ward (precursor to the Atlanta City Council). Brady also served as an appraiser for MARTA; Tax Arbitrator for City of Atlanta, and was Chairman of the Fulton County Board of Tax Assessors from 2002 to 2003. Brady had such a fun spirit and an infectious laugh. He truly enjoyed life and lived to the fullest. Brady leaves to cherish his memory a loving wife, E. Gayle Barnett; two children Ava B. Payne (Vincent) and Brady III (Debbie) of Macon, GA; step-children Jerald D. Whitaker (Monique); Jennifer W. Graham; Joycelyn W. Bergeron (Ray); Valencia Gamble (Randy); seven grand-children; two sister-in- laws a host of other relatives and friends.
