Obituary Condolences

GAMBLE V, Roger Roger Lawson Gamble, V passed away at his Sandy Springs home on March 3, 2014. He was laid to rest on March 7th in the Louisville, Georgia Cemetery beside his infant son, Roger, VI, his parents, grandparents, and great grandparents. His sister, Louise, preceded him in death. Roger was born in Louisville on June 25th, 1918, the son of Louise Warren and Roger Lawson Gamble, IV. He received his Bachelor's degree from the University of Texas and Georgia Tech, a Master's in Physics from the University of Chicago, and a PhD in Physics from the University of Texas. Roger served in the U. S. Navy during WWII in both the Atlantic and Pacific Theatres as a radar specialist with the PT Boats. After receiving his Doctorate, he worked for Convair, Lockheed GA, Georgia Tech, and the Atomic Energy Commission in Oak Ridge, Tennessee and Washington, DC. While at Lockheed he traveled to many foreign countries with the exhibit "Atoms in Action" teaching students about the peaceful uses of atomic energy. Roger's work with the Atomic Energy Commission and the Department of Energy continued this teaching with the American public. Roger is survived by Jean, his beloved wife of sixty-two years and his daughter, Jeanie, both of Atlanta. He was a member of the Cherokee Town and Country Club for fifty-five years, where he enjoyed swimming and golf. He was an avid reader and a lifelong learner, and was always a gentleman and a loving devoted husband and father.
