STEDING, Jerry Jerry A. Steding of Ellijay, formerly of Duluth GA died Monday, April 12, 2014 at his daughter's home in Canton. Mr. Steding was born on February 22, 1931 in Champaign, IL son of the late Harry M. and Lucy Steding. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 56 years Patricia J. Steding. Survivors include his daughter Linda T. Steding and fiancé, Russell Jackson of Canton, son James M. Steding and wife, Corrine Steding of Odenville, AL; one granddaughter Jasmin Steding and his very best friend Little Bear a Maltese dog. He graduated from the University of Illinois with a degree in Civil Engineering, after which he entered the Air Force. He served as a 1st Lieutenant Communications Specialist during the Korean Conflict. He retired as owner of Steding Pile Driving Corporation and several other successful companies related to the design and installation of specialty deep foundations. A true leader in the industry for over 30 years throughout the southeastern U.S. he invented a new foundation system in the early 70s that was successful worldwide. Also an author and a private pilot Jerry enjoyed travel, boating, golf, photography and scuba diving. Visitation will be at Darby Funeral Home in Canton, GA from 5:00pm - 8:00pm Tuesday April 22 and Funeral Services will be 1:00pm on Wednesday at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton.
