BROOKER, Marie MARIE BROOKER Marie Brooker was an award winning member and past President of the Atlanta African Violet Society but her biggest love was for children. She influenced countless numbers of children from her son's friends, their children, grandchildren and neighbors. She taught them how to swim in her backyard pool, how to enjoy the beauty of everyday life and always had a twinkle in her eye and a kind word. Mildred Marie Boone Brooker, 96, died on April 21. She was born in St. Louis, Michigan and was the daughter of the late Alford Glenn Boone and Lilian Hansen Boone. Her step mother was the late Ethel Tolhurst Boone. Marie graduated from Brenau College where she was later President of the lnternational Alumni Association for Brenau College. She was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority and President of the National Alumni Association of Alpha Gamma Delta. Marie was married to William Brooker, Jr. of Columbia, South Carolina for 57 wonderful years. They traveled allover Europe , Mexico and the United States. Because of her keen sense of business, she helped her husband operate his business, Brooker Truck Equipment, for many years. She had a great love of flowers and her yard was a great reflection of this. And she was also a huge sports enthusiast. One of her favorite sports was NASCAR and every time they ran she always had her favorite drivers chosen well in advance and watched to the end. She was predeceased by her two brothers, James Fredrick Boone and Alford Glenn Boone, Jr. She is survived by her son, Robert William Brooker and his wife, Patty Ayres Brooker one granddaughter, Christine Marie Brooker McWatters and her husband, Matthew Thomas McWatters and a great granddaughter, Amelia Marie McWatters of Nashville, Tennessee and a sister-in-law, Ann Sturgis Boone of Charlotte, North Carolina, five nieces and one nephew. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, April 25 in the Wilson Chapel at Peachtree Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends after the service . Contributions ay be made to Peachtree Presbyterian Church.
