Lola Wheeler Obituary
WHEELER, Lola Lola Brown Wheeler, age 92, of Pensacola, Florida died Thursday, April 17, 2014. Mrs. Wheeler was a native of Simpson County, Mississippi. She was one of the nine children of Tommie Dixon and Pearlie Boggan Brown and grew up on their farm outside of Mendenhall, Mississippi. She met her husband, the late Herbert Wheeler, in May, 1942, at Camp Shelby, Mississippi. They had two children, Patricia Wheeler Hull and the late Edgar Brown Wheeler. The couple lived briefly in Brooklyn, New York and in various towns throughout the south. They moved to Doraville, Georgia in 1958, lived there for 26 years, and then lived in Milton, Florida for another 25 years. Mrs. Wheeler moved to Pensacola in July 2009. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Milton. Mrs. Wheeler, who was valedictorian of her class, graduated from Pinola High School in Pinola, Mississippi in 1940. She worked in the Signal Branch of the US Army, at Camp Shelby, Mississippi from June, 1942, beginning as an under clerk and leaving there as a clerk typist in January, 1946. She began working for the Internal Revenue Service in Atlanta in April, 1961 as a claims clerk. When she retired from that agency in July, 1981, she held the position of Supervisory Tax Examiner and Unit Manager. She helped to write and edit training materials and often served as a classroom instructor in the training of new employees. Survivors include daughter Patricia Wheeler Hull and her husband Geoffrey Porter Hull of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; daughter-in-law Carolyn Carter Wheeler and her husband Kim Dana Boldthen of Marietta, Georgia; three grandchildren, Gordon Davis Hull and his wife Maya Socolovsky, of Charlotte, North Carolina; Paul Boggan Hull and his wife Jessica Lynn Katz, of Hendersonville, Tennessee; and Scott Jonathan Wheeler and his wife Christian Lewis Wheeler, of Canton, Georgia. Mrs. Wheeler is also survived by six great-grandchildren, Ilan, Amia, and Gali Socolovsky-Hull, Cody Alexander Grout and Drake Sylvan Hull, and Hunter Lewis Wheeler, and by numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Monday, April 28, 2014 at 11:30 AM at National Cremation & Burial Society, 5641 Highway 90 West in Milton, Florida. Visitation with the family is from 10:30 AM until the service hour at National Cremation & Burial Society. Burial will be with her husband at Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, Florida at 2 PM. National Cremation & Burial Society in Milton is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the , Covenant Hospice Milton, Northwest Florida Trauma Intervention Program, and the Audubon Society.
