McGIBENY, Joan Joan Loranger McGibeny of Decatur, GA, passed away peacefully at the age of 92 on April 25, 2014 at Hearthstone Assisted Living in Roswell, Georgia. A descendant of one of the original founders of Detroit MI, Joan was born to Camillus and Mabel Loranger on January 25, 1922. She was raised in Detroit with her brother; attended Wayne State University and later met and married architect Monroe (Mack) D. McGibeny in 1949. The couple moved to Mobile, AL where Joan became a successful licensed realtor, in addition to raising their daughter, Ann Nora McGibeny. Following a move to Decatur, GA in 1969, the family became members of the Decatur Parish of St. Thomas More and Joan worked for Kitchen Stylists, Inc. as a custom kitchen and bath designer. Joan was a devout Catholic who was active in her parish and also served as a volunteer at the First Presbyterian Church in Atlanta. She is predeceased by her husband, Mack; her daughter; Ann; and her brother, Robert Loranger. Throughout her life, Joan was humble, gracious and giving. Most of all, she was a wonderful wife, sister, mother, a dear friend and caretaker to many. There will be a private internment at the Decatur Cemetery, and a memorial mass will be scheduled at Saint Thomas More Church.
