Mark SELBEE

SELBEE, Mark Allen Mark Allen Selbee, Leawood, Kansas, died Saturday May 24th, 2014 of drowning. He was 45 years old. His life will be celebrated on Friday May 30th at 11am at the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection located at 13720 Roe Avenue, Leawood, KS 66224. Funeral services will be immediately followed by a reception and visitation in the narthex. Mark was born March 2nd, 1969, to Al and Penny Selbee in Topeka, Kansas. He was the younger brother of Denise Selbee-Koch. He graduated from Washburn Rural High School in 1987 and Washburn University, graduating with a BA in Communications in 1992. Mark started practicing Tae Kwon Do at Sun Yi's Academy in Topeka in sixth grade and it became a huge part of his life. He loved teaching and coaching others. Later, Mark developed his skills in kickboxing and mixed martial arts and was awarded the International Kickboxing Federation's Super Heavyweight World Championship in 2004. Mark also fought multiple times in Las Vegas in the K-1. He earned multiple awards of distinction throughout his life, however none of the awards were more valued than his family and the friendships he developed through his life. In 2005, Mark married Amy Brooke Nevius. The love they had for each other was beyond measure and evident to everyone that knew them. Together, they have three children, Easton Gray - 6, Ellington Brooke - 4 and Hudson Macallen - 22 months. He was an amazing husband and father. Mark took great pride in his family and loved them with his whole heart. Mark lived each day to make his children happy and healthy. He loved coming home at the end of the day and having all three kids rush into his arms as he walked through the door. When most parents longed to get their kids into bed at night, Mark often snuck the kids downstairs and piled them up on the couch to sleep all on top of him. It was definitely, his favorite thing. Mark was a hard worker and savvy businessman. He was the Executive Vice President of Linear Title Company. Mark had many friends in his lifetime and was well loved by many. Although Mark grew up in Topeka, he spent a few years in Kansas City and moved to Atlanta, GA where he met Amy and his friendship circle grew exponentially again. He was a great friend and worked hard to develop and maintain life long friendships. Always outgoing, energizing and full of adventure, Mark loved life and life loved him. Mark is survived by his wife Amy, and their children, Easton, Ellie Brooke and Hudson. His father and stepmother, Al and Mertie Selbee of Springfield, Missouri. His mother, Penny Selbee of Topeka, Kansas. His sister, Denise Selbee-Koch, her husband, Marcus Koch and their son, Marek Koch of Oskaloosa, Kansas.
