SINGLETON, Tilman Tilman Singleton of Valparaiso, Florida passed away surrounded by his family on Friday, May 30, 2014, following a long, fierce battle with leukemia. Tilman served as minister of music at First Baptist Church Valparaiso for 31 years, and was currently the organist and choir director at the West Chapel, Eglin AFB.? Throughout his vibrant career, many churches profited greatly from his contributions to their music programs. He was a dedicated piano teacher who loved his students, giving selflessly to inspire them musically and spiritually. As a member of MTNA, and past Vice-President of FMTA, Tilman devoted countless hours to promoting young musicians and their involvement in competitions and artistic endeavors. Above all, God remained Tilman's first love followed by music and his students. Tilman is survived by his wife Sondra and his children, Sterling and Sonnet. Siblings include Edith Richardson, Jim Singleton, Jerry Singleton, and Carol Banks of Conyers, GA. A service and the interment will be held on Thursday, June 5th at 2:00 pm, with the body lying in state from 1:00 - 2:00 pm, at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Tucker, GA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made at a future date to the pending establishment of a Tilman C. Singleton Music Competition Scholarship Fund.
