DUTTER, Wilbert Andrew Marietta, GA - Wilbert "Will" Dutter, 70, passed away peacefully early Monday morning, June 2, 2014, at Emory St. Joseph's Hospital, Atlanta, GA after a long hard-fought battle with cancer. He was born in Pottsville, PA, Nov. 01, 1943, to the late Charles Wilbert and Bessie Elizabeth (Hancock) Dutter. Will was a member of the Pottsville High School graduating class of 1961. After receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Service from The Pennsylvania State University, he was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Army. Upon completion of the US Army Transportation School, he was stationed with the 28th Transportation Battalion as the Commander of the 69th Transportation Company, Mannheim, Germany. Will proudly served his country as a member of the Armed Forces retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel in August of 1992. He was awarded the Bronze Star for his service during the Vietnam War, Army Commendation Medals for his service in Mannheim, Germany and Fort Eustis, Virginia and various Meritorious Service Medals during his 27 year career. During his career he served in Long Binh, Vietnam; Fort Eustis, Virginia; Fort Meade, Maryland; Izmir, Turkey; St. Louis, Missouri; Oberursel, Germany; Atlanta, Georgia; and Norfolk, Virginia. Always interested in continuing education, Will attended several military and civilian, domestic and international transportation schools. He received a Master of Science degree in Management from Troy State University and he graduated on the Commandant's List from the US Army Command and General Staff College. Will Dutter is survived by a his wife of 49 years, Joan Anascavage Dutter, three daughters and sons-in-laws, Elisabeth and Reed Goodwin of Marietta, GA; Kristen and Brent Barfield of Kennesaw, GA; and Meredith and Stephen Brennan of Union, Kentucky and seven grandchildren, Reston and Ella Goodwin; Madison, Kaden, and Seth Barfield; Conor and Ryan Brennan. He is also survived by a sister, Elizabeth Hymes of Reading, PA, a brother-in-law, James Hasler of Deland, Florida, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Shirley Hasler and a brother-in-law, Charles Robert Hymes. Visitation will be from 12:00pm -2:00pm at H.M. Patterson & Son - Canton Hill Chapel, Marietta, GA followed by a memorial service at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to MD Anderson Cancer Center or the DASH Families Foundation Inc., an organization created by Will and Joan Dutter to fund scholarships and research grants for students in economically disadvantaged regions.
