Hoyt McDARIS Obituary
McDARIS, Hoyt Hoyt Campbell McDaris of Mount Vernon Towers, Sandy Springs, 94, passed away August 5, 2014. He was born in Cleveland, TN. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and wife Nancy McCall Riley. He is survived by daughters, Carol LeGrand, Sallie McDaris and partner Candy, Emily Brasher and husband Marty, sons, Campbell and wife Elaine, David and wife Jeanie. Also surviving are eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He was a graduate of the University of TN at Chattanooga and throughout his youth played trumpet in many bands. He played with Les Brown in the summer of 1941. He also sang in church choirs, Methodist Men's Singing Quartet, as his love of music was deep in his soul, he continued singing melodies at Mt. Vernon Towers. He enlisted in the Army as a Flight Instructor, Palmer Field, Bennettsville, SC; there he met his wife of 58 years. From Palmer Field he went to Kinston, NC as an Instructor Squadron Commander. After leaving the Army, he continued to fly commercially with several airlines. He started a career with Champion International Paper and was Vice President of Operation until his retirement in Sandy Springs. Mr. McDaris moved to Mt. Vernon Towers after the death of his wife, where he was appreciated for his faithful service as Chairman of the Board, President and CEO of the association. Memorial Services will be held Thursday, August 7, 2014 at 2:30 pm at Mt. Vernon Tower Sunporch. Graveside services will be held Saturday, August 9, 2014 at 2:00pm in McCall Cemetery in Bennettsville, SC. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the .
