Family-Placed Death Notice

GAGE, Joe Joe W. Gage of Cumming, Georgia passed away on June 2, 2008. He was born in Manhattan, N.Y.C., New York on May 13, 1924. His parents were the late Frank W. and Jean I. Gage formally of Roselle and Chatham, NJ. He graduated from Edward F. Searles High School, Methuen, MA. 1941. He served in the European Theater of Operation during World War II as a radio operator in the 97th Mortar Battalion attached to the Third Army. He graduated from Syracuse University 1951 with a BSME degree. Joe spent most of his engineering career in the air conditioning field designing equipment and systems with the following companies: Worthington Corp., East Orange, N.J. (18 years); Fedders Corp., Edison, N.J. (3 years); and Southern Company (Georgia Power Company) Atlanta, Georgia (15 years). He was an active member of the North Atlanta Church of Christ and served as deacon in a number of ministries. He was a member of Georgia Power Ambassadors where he serve as president of the North Metro chapter for two years. Joe enjoyed and participated in most sports but tennis was his favorite in later years. He coached Little League during the period in his life when his children were involved. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Surviving are his wife of 42 years, Betty M. Gage, five children and their spouses: Traci and Donald Fairbairn, Darnestown, MD; Douglas and Diane Gage, Taylorsville, GA; Kelly and Thomas Jones, Woodstock, GA; Karen Gage, Blue Ridge, GA; Scott and Judith Gage, Duluth, GA; nine grandchildren: Robert and Catherine Fairbairn, Darnestown, MD; Amanda Lowe, Woodstock, GA; Scott and Cameron Jones, Woodstock, GA; Christopher and Rachel Gage, Duluth, GA; and Lauren and Sarah Gage, Taylorsville, GA; two great-grandchildren; Olivia and Joshua Lowe, Woodstock, GA; one sister and spouse, Phyllis and Daniel Hartley, Maplewood, NJ. and nephews and nieces in New Jersey, California and Massachusettes. Joe was preceded in death by his first wife, Ardyth R. (Tallman) Gage and their two children, David and Robin December 14, 1962, Cedar Grove, NJ. A memorial service will be held Friday June 6, 1:30 PM in North Atlanta Church of Christ, with Pastor Don McLaughlin and Ken Snell officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday, June 5, from 2 until 4 PM and 6 until 8 PM in Roswell Funeral Home.
