Family-Placed Death Notice
NEWMAN, Carolyn CAROLYN SNELSON NEWMAN Carolyn Snelson Newman of Sandy Springs, Georgia, died at her home on February 27, 2009. She was born Carolyn Snelson in Hawthorne, Florida on April 29, 1927 and grew up at her grandmother's house on 14th Street near Piedmont Park. Mrs. Newman graduated from Girls High in 1945. She went off to college at the University of Georgia and was a member of Kappa Delta sorority. She was a former member of First Baptist Church of Atlanta, Briarcliff Baptist Church, and Wieuca Road Baptist Church and was a member of the adult choirs at each. She was an active member of Dunwoody Baptist Church and its senior choir. She previously taught Kindergarten, and led the cherub choir at Dunwoody Baptist. Mrs. Newman is preceded in death by her husband, Robert H. Newman, and by her first husband, Lawrence V. Stringer. She is survived by her sister Betty Martin; children and their spouses Stacy and Molly Stringer, Pam and John Roark, Frank and Ellen Stringer, Gayle and Scott Lane; her grandchildren Jay, Anna, Amy, Christopher, Cathryn, Malory and Robby; and her great-grandchildren Ethan and Noah. A memorial service will be held Friday, March 6th at 6:00 at H. M. Patterson & Son Arlington Chapel, 173 Allen Road, NE, Sandy Springs, Georgia 30328.
