Family-Placed Death Notice

THOMPSON, George GEORGE WARNER THOMPSON George Warner Thompson, affectionately known as (GW) age 72, of Peachtree City, Ga., passed Friday, March 13, 2009. He was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church of Atlanta, Ga. where he was actively involved in many ministries. He was a former Atlanta police officer and retired from General Motors Lakewood branch as security officer after 25 years. George was a native of Columbus, Ga. where he graduated from Spencer High School and was later drafted in to the United States Navy. He was a member of the 100 Black Men of South Metro and the Fayette County Branch NAACP. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Burks-Thompson, son, Michael Thompson (Zalencia), two grandchildren, Shiovanna and Melita Thompson, two great-grandchildren, Denellium and Amayah, two sisters, Pearline Walker of Columbus, Ga.; and Ethel Jenkins of Atlanta, Ga.; two brothers, Horis Thompson (Mary) of Detroit, Mich.; and Willie (Mack) Thompson of Oakland, Calif.; and aunt, Julia Pearl Thompson of Columbus, Ga. He also leaves a godson, Kevin King, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral service will be held at the church on Friday, March 20, at 11 a.m. The body will lie in state at the church from 10 a.m. until hour of service.
