Family-Placed Death Notice

BRADEN, Virginia Ellen VIRGINIA ELLEN BARR BRADEN On Saturday, May 2nd, Virginia "Gini" Barr Braden lost her five year battle with ovarian cancer. Gini had recently undergone aggressive treatments and was recovering in the hospital when she passed away. She was born February 5, 1944, in Bowdon, GA, one of four children of John and Jean Barr. Following graduation from Bowdon High School in 1962, she attended Piedmont Hospital Nursing School and graduated in the class of 1965. In that same month she married Larry L. Braden of Atlanta and they settled in Acworth, GA, while she began working with Dr. Douglas Glover in his medical practice in Marietta. She and Larry acquired a local pharmacy and worked closely together in a wide range of activities during their nearly forty-four years of marriage. While practicing her profession she expanded her nursing career into working with members of the physicians community on clinical drug trials. She and Larry have two children, Jonathan Braden and Katie Braden Robertson, both of Acworth. Gini was active in the community and in the Acworth United Methodist Church, where she began playing the piano years ago. Over the last several years, she greatly enjoyed singing in the choir, where she was surrounded by a close knit group of dear friends. In addition to her husband and two children, she is survived by her daughter-in-law, Susann Meadows Braden, son-in-law, Brent Robertson, and grandchildren Lindsey and Trammell Braden, and Emily and Will Robertson; her brother Robert P. Barr, and sister Carroll Ann Barr King, both of Carrollton, GA, and four nephews . She was preceded in death by her parents and her older brother John H. Barr, III. Gini had a deep commitment to and love for children and served on the board of Kids Peace, a home for neglected children, in Bowdon. She was a Cobb County Court Appointed Special Advocate and chaired a Panel serving as a voice before the courts for neglected and abused children. Fond of gardening, she had a special group of fellow gardener friends. Over the past several years she and her family enjoyed frequent trips to their home on St. Simons Island, which had provided many pleasant respites during her years of cancer treatment. Gini leaves a legacy of love, sharing, supporting and courage. Her family, friends and countless others for whom she has become a beacon in their individual life's challenges shall always remember the blessing of her sharing herself with us. The family will receive visitors at Acworth United Methodist Church from 6pm-9pm on Monday. A memorial service will be held at 2pm on Tuesday at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Evelyn Butler Fund at KidsPeace, 101 KidsPeace Drive., Bowdon, GA 30108 or the Ovarian Cancer Institute, 980 Johnson Ferry Road, NE, Suite 900, Atlanta, GA 30342.
