Family-Placed Death Notice

SIMMONS, Lillie Mae Lillie Mae Simmons, 74, passed away on Monday, September 21, 2009, in Snellville, GA. Miss Lillie was born on October 13, 1934 in Chattanooga, TN to Cecil and Aleph Brown. She was known for her giving spirit and wonderful volunteerism; she put everyone's needs before her own and donated much of her free time to helping those in need. Miss Lillie was the sweetest person who loved everyone she met unconditionally. Miss Lillie had a great love of children and spent the final years of her life caring for them as a nanny. Every Christmas, Miss Lillie would dress up as Mrs. Claus and visit children while handing out gifts and homemade treats. She was also an excellent cook; no one made biscuits or macaroni and cheese like Miss Lillie and everyone was always glad to get a dinner invitation from Miss Lillie. Miss Lillie had aspirations as well, after a stroke in 2008, Miss Lillie worked hard in her physical therapy with two goals in mind...1. to go home and 2. to walk the Peachtree Road Race with her daughters. Lillie was preceded in death by her parents and husband Clarence Karl Whitworth. Survivors include her husband J.W. Simmons of Auburn, GA, daughters Angel Whitworth and husband Thomas Stradling of Tucker, GA, Angie Whitworth Pace and husband David of Salt Lake City, UT, Joy Evans and husband Troy of Spokane, WA and Jill Johnson of Pasadena, TX, sons Steven Hopper and wife Shirley of Austin, TX, Mike Whitworth of Atlanta, Chris Torgesen and wife Wendy of Pocatello, ID and Matt Hopper of Reno, NV, sister Glory Hernandez of Seattle, WA, 15 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and granddogs Ace, Spike, Zoe, Toby and Daisy.
