MORRIS, Daniel Daniel Maltby Morris, age 47, of Tucker, Georgia passed away on October 1, 2009, in his home of natural causes. He was born on July 1, 1962. He was the youngest of three brothers and one sister. The son of the predeceased Joseph Morris of Atlanta, he is survived by his mother Diane Morris of Tucker, brother Joseph Morris (Nelly) of Tucker, sister Jeannine Simmons (Billy) of Lawrenceville, brother Robert Morris of Atlanta, aunt Nini Chilton of Atlanta, uncle Jack Chilton Sr. of Madison, cousins Jack Chilton Jr. of Atlanta, Chris Chilton of Tucker, Carol Chilton Gornowicz of Atlanta and Robert Morris of Grayson and many other cousins, nieces and nephews. A multi-sport standout growing up in the Northlake area of DeKalb County, he played his youth sports of football and baseball at Briarcliff Community Sports and basketball at Briarwood Recreation Center. He later went on to star in football and soccer at Lakeside High School, where he was known for his tenacious play as a defensive back in football and defender in soccer. He helped the Lakeside soccer team capture a state championship in 1978 and the football team advance to the state semifinals in 1978. He also played many years after high school for the renowned Mo's Coyotes, a powerhouse club soccer team consisting of primarily former Lakeside stars. A 1980 graduate of Lakeside, he attended Auburn University and eventually earned undergraduate and graduate degrees from Mercer University of Atlanta. His professional career featured work in real estate appraisal. He devoted his life to the Lord in his later years, singing in the choir and attending services on a regular basis. He also had an additional love of animals and them for him, helping his mother care for a long line of dogs in the family including Puppy, Ruff, Doggy, Little Dog, Chloe, Pookie and Cisco. A memorial service is planned for Friday, Oct. 23 at 11 a.m. at Briarcliff United Methodist Church, with a reception to follow. Reverend Phil Miller - his uncle - will be conducting the service. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to a local animal shelter of your choice or to Briarcliff United Methodist Church.
