Family-Placed Death Notice
WITHERS, Betty BETTY WITHERS Betty Withers, age 84, passed away peacefully with family and devoted caregivers at her bedside December 2, 2009 at Colonial Acres Care Center in Golden Valley, MN. She was born May 20, 1925 in Atlanta, Georgia where she resided until the death of her husband in 2007. She was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 61 years, Royce Withers, parents Franklin Owen Gunter and Annie Maude Prather Gunter, and a close family friend who was loved like a daughter, Dee Dukes. Betty retired in 1985 from the Social Security Administration where she worked as a hearing assistant for an administrative law judge. She was a civil service employee for over 20 years. Betty had significant health issues the last decade of her life but will more often be remembered by those who knew her well for her kind and gentle spirit, her devotion to family, church and friends. She was a competent and skilled civil service employee who had a strong work ethic. She worked full-time and raised three children who are grateful for her sacrifices during those years. Survivors include her children, Lyn Gentry of Greensboro, NC, Jan Withers (Harold Londer) of Golden Valley, MN, Ed Withers (Denise) of Louisville, KY, one grandson, Graham Withers of Louisville, KY, one step-granddaughter Jolie Londer Stukel (Eric) of Minneapolis, MN, one step-grandson, Noah Londer of New York City, and two step-great-grandchildren, Evie and Maddox Stukel, also of Minneapolis, MN. Visitation begins at 1 pm, followed by a celebration of life service at 3 pm on December 8 in the Chapel of Roswell Funeral Home with burial to follow in GreenLawn Cemetery, 950 Mansell Rd., Roswell,GA 30076. The family would like to thank the dedicated and compassionate care givers and all employees at Colonial Acres Care Center, Chaplains Jim Anderson and John Satterberg, and Dr. Chris Downey for their support and comfort during these past 23 months. Also, thanks to Betty's feline friend, Kitty May, who could always bring a smile to her face.
