Family-Placed Death Notice

OWENS, Steven STEVEN W. OWENS Steven W. Owens, age 52, died Sunday, January 17, 2010 of cardiac arrest following back surgery in Marina del Rey, CA. Steve was born, November 22, 1957, in Atlanta, GA, the son of Marguerite Kent and Frank C. Owens, Jr. He was preceded in death, by his brother, Wm. Kent Owens and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Cecil W. Kent and Mr. and Mrs. Frank C. Owens. He is survived by his wife, Grace Chen Owens; his son, Steven W. Owens, Jr.; two stepdaughters Cecilia and Cynthia Fong; a brother Frank Camden Owens, III and his wife Amie, of Greenville, S.C.; a sister Marguerite (Margo) Owens Boden and her husband, William (Bill) A. Boden; and Grace's family from Canton, China; her parents, Miao Yun Ma and Gunlin Chen; her sisters Yan Fan and Yan Lan Chen; her brother Guoda Chen. Steve is also survived by his two aunts and uncle, Mrs. Lawrence W. Shippey and Mr. and Mrs. John B. Chapman; nieces and nephews, Saffron Owens Algozzini (Anthony), Frank Camden Owens IV, Grant and Aidan Owens, Zachary, Nicholas and Mackenzie Boden, cousins William Shippey (Linda), Janet Chapman, Owens Chapman (Marlyn), John Chapman, Jr. (Katherine) and their families. Steve grew up in Atlanta and was a member of Peachtree Presbyterian Church. For the past seven years, he has lived in California, where he started the Kent Owens Family Foundation, in memory of his brother, Kent, and opened seven Face Life Sober Living Homes, in Marina del Rey, CA. Steve, like his brother Kent, was a very compassionate man with many talents and a big heart. He touched many lives. He was a gifted musician, an inspiring public speaker, with a great sense of humor and had authored a book about his life story, to be published this year. For those who wish, in lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory can be made to Peachtree Presbyterian Church, 3434 Roswell Road N.W., Atlanta, GA, 30305 or the Atlanta History Center, 130 West Paces Ferry Road, Atlanta, GA, 30305, or to a charity of their choice. A Memorial Service will be held at 1 o'clock, Friday, January 22, 2010, at H. M. Patterson and Son Arlington Chapel, 173 Allen Road, Sandy Springs, GA 30328 404-851-9900 with Reverend J. Robert Ward, officiating. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held in Malibu, CA, to be announced at a later date.
