Family-Placed Death Notice

DURAN, Louis Louis A. Duran died on Thursday, August 5th, 2010 at the age of 90, from a stroke. Mr. Duran was a decorated WW II Veteran having served in the Army Air Corps in China, Burma, India, and the Mariana Islands as an aerial gunner on a B-29. As a member of the 58th Bomb Wing of the 462 Bomb Group, he flew a total of 35 missions and earned the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal with 3 clusters, and Presidential Unit Citation with cluster. He was a member of the Hump Pilots Association and received a special award from the Chinese Air Force in recognition of outstanding personal and professional achievements in military aviation. After a long business career in International Management, Louis and his wife, Rose, purchased a small theatrical costume business in Whippany, New Jersey which they developed into the largest in the state. At their retirement, Footlight Studio was sold to a national chain. In 2004, Rose and Louis moved to Atlanta to live with their daughter. Louis became a member of the World War II Roundtable, and recently participated in an Honor Flight to Washington DC for WWII veterans. He is survived by a brother, Henry Duran in New Jersey; his wife Rose, and daughter Patricia Bell of Atlanta; a grandson Jack Bell, his wife Stefanie, and two great-granddaughters in Marietta; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. A memorial service will be held on Monday evening, August 16th, 2010 at the Northlake Church of Christ, 1625 Cooledge Rd., Tucker, GA 30084. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Louis' memory to: The Briarcliff Animal Foundation c/o Briarcliff Animal Clinic; The , Georgia Chapter; Plymouth Harbor Adult Day Program at Central Congregational United Church of Christ; or the Salvation Army.
