Family-Placed Death Notice

ELLIOTT, Shirley SHIRLEY ELLIOTT Shirley Ann Lanigan Elliott Succumbed September 3, 2010 after battling ovarian cancer since 1984. She credited her faith in God and the doctors to whom she was led to for the life she was able to live for so many years following her diagnosis as well as the steadfast care and devotion of her beloved family. Shirley was a native of Atlanta Ga. Being raised in the little five points area of N.E. Atlanta. She attended Moreland Grammar School, Bass High School graduating in 1954, she attended Massey Business College while employed by Citizens & Southern National Bank in the Interline/Freight Payment Dept., later she was with Proctor & Gamble and Dekalb Federal S&L (now Wachovia) until her retirement in 1994. She was active in the P.T.A. and her church, Peachcrest Christian, teaching "Whirlybirds" (5-6 yrs. In. age..) a choir member, having some solos in cantatas. Since her husband, was in the Yaarab Shriners, Shirley was active in the auxiliary for the Oriental Band, which was Known as LAYOBA, this was an Abbreviation for ladies of the Oriental Band. She served several times as President, VP, Basharat Reporter, Correspondent Secretary and keeper of the scrapbook, She married Harold Eugene Elliott on Valentine's Day and they have celebrated 49 years together Survived by her husband Harold, their children, James Anthony (Tony) Elliott, his wife Tamela Getty Elliott, Terri Lynne Elliott Brown, her husband Nigel J. Brown and her cherished granddaughters Shelby Ann Brown and Sarah Lynne Brown, sisters Kathleen Lanigan Humphrey, nephews, great nephews, great niece, cousin Michael Lee McGee of Pearland TX. Funeral services will be held at 1 P.M. on Wednesday Sept. 8, 2010 in the Fairview Chapel of Horis A. Ward. Pastor David Gravitt will officiate, Interment in the Fairview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4-8 P.M. on Tuesday Sept., 7, 2010. The Family ask in lieu of flowers please make contributions to the .
