Family-Placed Death Notice

CHILDS, Gail Gail E. Childs died Monday afternoon following a brave but short battle with cancer. Gail was a native and lifelong resident of Atlanta. She attended the University of Georgia, Athens and Georgia State University, Atlanta. Gail was awarded the Honorary degree of Magna Cum Laude from Georgia State University. Gail had a long and very distinguished career with Delta Air Lines. She started with Delta in Atlanta in 1970. Over the next three decades, she rose from a Reservations Sales Agent to various positions within the company. These duties include but are not limited to: multiple Manager assignments in Delta Meeting Network, Agency Marketing, and Brand Management. Gail also was System Manager - Company Meetings and Associations. Gail later became the Call Center Director in Atlanta for Delta's largest call center worldwide with over 1,300 employees. She also managed the diverse international reservations groups in over 70 call centers and retail locations in 35 countries around the world. Additionally, Gail represented Delta in various industry organizations both in the United States and worldwide. These included Meeting Professionals International, Professional Convention Management Association, the American Society of Association Executives, Society of Incentive Travel Executives, Society of Professional Journalists and National Association of Executive Females among others. Gail was an invaluable leader and contributor to Delta Air Lines throughout her career. She was so very dedicated and committed to her work. She was an exceptional mentor and so passionate about personnel development. Gail consistently observed the highest standards of integrity. In recognition of Gail's many talents, she was selected to The Chairman's Club. Delta's Chairman's Club was developed as a tribute to exceptional people just like Gail. She consistently performed at levels far above and beyond her everyday responsibilities in an effort to better serve all customers, internal and external. She was selected by her peers to this very prestigious group. Gail was a creative, artistic, highly intelligent and very caring person. She was adventuresome, a lover of travel, books and music. Gail was comfortable around all people and cultures and she made it so easy for those around her to feel comfortable. She was loved, respected and admired by many. Gail will truly be missed. Gail is survived by her father William Jack Childs and her sister Valerie. In memory of Gail, there will be a "Celebration of Life" service Friday, April 29, at 11:00 a.m., Jane Hubbard officiating. During the service there will be an opportunity for anyone who is interested to share their memories of Gail.
