HORNE, Robert The Rev. Dr. Robert Milton Horne, Ret. US Army Chaplain (Lt. Col.) and Ret. Presbyterian Minister, born June 2, 1927 in Dallas, TX, died at home in Atlanta, August 23, 2011. He was 84. Survived by his wife Rose DeVillier Horne, daughters Mary Ann Horne, Lori Benoit, and Charlotte LaBorde, sons Mark Horne and Rene' Benoit, he has nine grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by two sons, Chris and Mike Benoit, his parents George Mobley and Mary Hite Horne and sister Elsie Wayne Lindsey. As Military Chaplin he completed tours to Korea, Vietnam, Japan, and Germany and state-side assignments in MS, KY, NY and GA. Following military service he served in LA as pastor and social case worker for churches and state institutions retiring in 1987. After receiving Dr. of Ministry from Columbia Seminary in 1990, he served several supply pastorates in the Greater Atlanta Presbytery and devoted great energy to his passion, peacemaking, and his involvement with the Presbyterian Peacemaking Committee. Bob was a faithful, attentive, loving human being and a tireless advocate for peace, justice, the poor, and the disenfranchised. He loved nature, music and other fine arts, was a life-long student of history, government, science, philosophy, and theology, and encouraged scholarship in others. He fostered a respectful free exchange of diverse and opposing ideas, and discouraged ideological polarization and divisiveness. Services and interment were held at Resthaven Gardens of Memory in Baton Rouge, LA on Saturday. Visit the online guestbook at www.resthavenbatonrouge.com. Some days it just hits you, I don´t know what else to say. It was a blessing to know you in my childhood and there are days I think of you and wish you were here to talk to me. I still receive your wisdom through Granny and Mom, and I will do my best along with the rest of the family to treat them and everyone I meet with the grace and respect they deserve. You and Granny taught me that and I value it so much in this upside down generation and modern world. Missing you this morning. -Luke Sweeting, Grandson

I would like to express my condolences to the family. During this time of great sorrow, I hope that the family find comfort from James 4:8. It says, "Draw close to God, and he will draw close to you." May you'll draw close to God in your time of need.
