FARMER, W.D. W.D. FARMER W.D. Farmer, age 83 is an Atlanta native and graduated from Tech High School, where he served in the Marine R.O.T.C. He proudly served as a Marine after high school. W.D. Farmer was a pioneer in the stock home plan industry. Many homes around the Atlanta area, and the country, were built using his plans. He could drive through neighborhoods and identify the house plan number, built up and down most every street. He was acknowledged as an authority in residential design and energy conservation. Designing plans for N.A.H.B. and Red Cross for disaster relief housing. He was a 3 time winner of the Silver Hexagon International Award of Excellence for home design, given in the Habitation Space International Competition. W.D. was a charter member of the Georgia Society of American Institute of Building Design, where he served as president, secretary, and national director. He was a member of the College of Fellows of A.I.B.D., which is limited to no more than five percent of the professional membership nationwide. He has received the Designer of the Year Award and Lifetime Achievement Award. He was a lifetime director of The Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association and chaired many committees, including 2 terms as Associate Vice President. He was a life spike, and received the Spike of the Year Award two consecutive years. He received awards of Associate of the Year at both the Chapter and Metro levels. W.D. also received the Lewis Cenker Award, for lifetime contributions to the building industry. W.D. was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years Annette C. Farmer and 9 brothers and sisters. He is survived by his daughter Vickie Starkey and her husband Bill and their two completely adored grandchildren, Patrick and Amanda Starkey; and brother, Charles Farmer. A Funeral Service Celebrating the Life of W.D. Farmer will be held Thursday, May 31 at 11:00AM at Tom M. Wages Snellville Chapel. Interment will be held at Eternal Hills Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5 until 8PM, at the funeral home.
