BRACKETT, Susan SUSAN BROWN BRACKETT Susan Brown Brackett, 79, a native of Atlanta, passed away Monday at St. Joseph's Hospital. Sue was predeceased by her parents, Ada Peeples Brown and George Watt Brown, her husband Joseph Ernest Brackett, and her brother Robin Brown. Sue was born in Piedmont Hospital in 1933, and attended R.L. Hope Elementary School and moved with her family to Ft. Lauderdale in 1946. She swam for the Flying L's at Ft. Lauderdale High School. She broke the state back stroke record and was placed in the Ft. Lauderdale Swimming Hall of Fame. After graduating from Ft. Lauderdale High, she attended the University of Florida, where she was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority. She returned to Atlanta and was a flight attendant for Eastern Airlines, which she loved. She married Joseph Ernest Brackett and was blessed with three children. Over the years, she worked for Holy Innocence Church and the Church of the Atonement. She was a lifelong member of St. Anne's Episcopal Church and worked diligently on the Alter Guild and volunteered at Canterbury Ct. and St. Anne's Terrace. She was a long time member of Cherokee Town and Country Club, and most days could be found on the tennis courts playing the game she loved. She was a true friend to everyone and was glad to provide a shoulder to cry on or and empathetic ear. She was a wonderful hostess and the epitome of a true southern lady. She is survived by her three children, Robin Ann Brackett of Atlanta; Joseph Ernest Brackett Jr. of Charlotte, NC; and Judy Elise Brackett; a granddaughter, Emerson Elise Brackett; her nephew Kent Brackett, of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; and her cousin Winnie Akers and Trudy Chatham of Atlanta. A memorial service will be offered on Saturday, June 23, 2012 at 2 pm, at St. Anne's Episcopal Church, 3098 St. Anne's Ln., NW, Atlanta, GA 30327. A reception a the church will follow. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Anne's Episcopal Church or the . Arrangements are under the direction of SouthCare Cremation and Funeral Society of Marietta. (770) 420-5557.
