Family-Placed Death Notice
SIMPSON, W.J. "Bud" William Joseph "BUD" Simpson Sr. "Bud" Simpson, 83, passed away Sept. 23, 2012 in Venice, FL. He was born and raised in Philadelphia, and served in the US Marine Corps. Following his service he took on a job with Nationwide Insurance Co. which brought him to Atlanta in 1969. After 30 years with the company, Bud was able to retire at the age of 50. He was married to his former wife Jean (deceased), for 36 years and they raised 5 children here in Atlanta; Irene Terrell, Mark Simpson, Dale Halligan, Leo Simpson and William "Bill" Simpson Jr. He is survived by 4 children but tragically lost his son Bill in 1981. They were active members of St. Jude's Catholic Church. He later married and is survived by his loving wife of 25 yrs. Carol. Bud and Carol moved to Venice FL and enjoyed their retirement to the fullest, volunteering and supporting their community through both the Catholic and Methodist churches in FL., taking cruises with friends and traveling to visit family. Bud was always grateful for the quality of his life. He was a regular participant in league bowling and golf and was a member of the America Legion. He kept his wit, sharp mind and sense of humor until the very end when he finally succumbed to cancer. Bud was also a beloved step father of 3, grandfather of 10 and great grandfather of 2. An exceptionally beautiful celebration of his life was held on Sept. 29, in FL. and was attended by many. Bud was a devoted and loving husband and father and he is missed by all who knew him. There will be a private, family, grave side burial of Bud's ashes at Arlington Cemetery Nov. 4th where he will be placed next to his wife Jean and their son Bill.
