Family-Placed Death Notice

GRIFFIN, Betty ATLANTA - Mrs. Betty Rakestraw Famber Griffin, 77, entered into rest on Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at Emory Midtown Atlanta Hospital. Funeral service will be at 11:00 AM, today at Greater New Harvest Baptist Church, located at 1131 Smith Street SW., Atlanta, Georgia, where Reverend Maynon Copeland is the pastor of church. Minister Gerald Jenkins will officiate. Burial will follow in the South View Cemetery located at 1990 Jonesboro Road Southeast, Atlanta, Georgia. Wayne Woodard, Keenen Jones, Kenneth W. Goggins, RuDon Showers, James B. Ellison and Michael Crawford will serve as pallbearers. She was born on November 12, 1935 in Atlanta, Georgia to the late Mr. John Albert Rakestraw and the late Mrs. Sallie Mae Hutchinson Rakestraw. Betty worked as a nurse for Dr. Asa Yancey at the Hughes Spalding Hospital and at Grady Memorial Hospital for 30 years until her retirement. She was a long time member of Tabernacle Baptist Church, Woods Memorial Baptist Church, and ended her life in membership at the Jackson Memorial Baptist Church. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, baking and traveling. She leaves to cherish her memories: loving husband, Donald Howard Griffin Sr., devoted son, Wayne Eric Famber, Sr. of Atlanta, Georgia; step-daughter, Brenda Griffin Teart of McDonough, Georgia; step-son, Donald Howard Griffin Jr. of Decatur, Georgia, one brother, Richard Rakestraw of Decatur, Georgia; one sister, Rita Joan Wright (husband, Sylvester) of Decatur, Georgia; sister-in-law, Barbara Rakestraw of Lithonia, Georgia; two grandchildren, Wayne Eric Famber, II and Phillip Charles Famber, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, and special friends, Helen Showers, Thelma R. Smith, Blanche S. Hood, Hester Johnson and Roberta Hubert. In lieu of flowers please make contributions to the Cancer Society, Office of Gifts, Emory University, 1762 Clifton Road, Suite 1400, Atlanta, GA 30322, in memory of Mrs. Betty Rakestraw Famber Griffin. Wayne Woodard, Keenan Jones, Kenneth W. Goggins, RuDon Showers, Stanley Showers, James B. Ellison, and Michael Crawford will serve as pallbearers. Final arrangements have been entrusted to Luke Strong and Son Mortuary, Ltd. located at 20 First Street Northeast, Moultrie, Georgia.
