KNEEN, Harriet Lucia HARRIET LUCIA KNEEN Harriet Lucia Kneen, 92, passed away on Saturday, November 17, 2012. Mrs. Kneen was born in New Haven, Connecticut on June 28, 1920. She was a registered nurse who graduated from the Massachusetts General Hospital School of Nursing in September 1941. In March 1942, she was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Army Nurse Corps and during World War II, she was assigned to the Sixth General Hospital in Casablanca Africa and Rome Italy supporting the European theater of combat operations. At the end of World War II, she was discharged from active duty and shortly thereafter she married Colonel George H. Kneen Jr. She and her husband then spent the next twenty-four years in various Air Force assignments around the world finishing their career at Dobbins Air Force Base. Colonel and Mrs. Kneen were married for 66 years. Mrs. Kneen was an active member of the Marietta Country Club, the Georgia Senior Golf Association and the Pilgrimage United Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her husband, who passed away on August 23, 2012 and her brother Paul Johnsen. Survivors include her son, Lieutenant Colonel Terry Kneen (Kathy), Louisville, KY, daughter Wendy Williams (David), Powder Springs, three grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and numerous nephews and nieces. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Pilgrimage United Church of Christ, 3755 Sandy Plains Road, Marietta, GA 30066. Services will be held at 2pm, Wednesday November 21, 2012 at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home in Marietta, 180 Church Street, Marietta, GA 30060. www.mayeswarddobbins.com
