Family-Placed Death Notice

SLEIGHT, Edward, Sr. 1938-2012 PAULDING - Ed Sleight, K4SB, age 74, died Sunday, Dec 16th He was born Mar 11th, 1938 in Greensville, NC son of Howard and Alexandria (Adams) Sleight. Edward pointed to a plane flying overhead to his sister and said that one day he would fly one of those someday. To accomplish this he attended NC State and UNC (ROTC) to qualify to be an officer and pilot in the navy. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy as a fighter pilot, flying off the USS Forrestal (CV-59/CVA-59). He went on to work for Eastern Airlines flying the DC-9, DC-10, 727 and A300 and retired with the rank of Captain. Also known as K4SB, he was an avid HAM. His lifetime working with radios and antenna design made him many friends and contacts he made around the world. Loved sports and was an avid fan of the Tar Heels. Survived by his brother and two sisters, two sons and two grandchildren. No services are planned. Preferred memorials are to the American Red Cross or AMVETS.
