Family-Placed Death Notice

TATUM, Nancy MRS. NANCY ROCHE TATUM Mrs. Nancy Roche Tatum died Thursday, February 7th in her home in Sandy Springs, Georgia. A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 23rd at St. James United Methodist Church in Atlanta, Georgia at 11:30AM with receiving beginning at 10:30 AM. Nancy was born in Leominster, MA and was a member of the first graduating class of Endicott College in Beverly, MA where she majored in Drama. In Leominster, she enjoyed a remarkable upbringing on the Pinehurst Stables estate of her father, Peter T. Roche, a renowned thoroughbred trainer who was once touted as the "World's Greatest Horseman." Amongst her favorite memories was playing Lady Macbeth to critical acclaim and serving as head cheerleader for Leominster High School. Nancy and her husband, Arthur Ray Tatum, moved to Atlanta in 1953. They were active members at Northside Methodist Church and were later amongst the founding members of St. James Methodist Church. An avid tennis player, Nancy enjoyed participating on ALTA tennis teams at Ansley Golf Club and Capital City Club. She was a most beloved and exceptionally caring friend, wife, mother, aunt, sister, neighbor, and Gammy. Her infectious laugh, spirit, and kindness were remarkable and kept her strong and healthy for 91 years. She and her hallmark sense of humor will be sorely missed by countless fans. She is preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Ray Tatum and her sister, Sally O'Brien of Orlando, FL. Her survivors include her son, Garrett N. Tatum of Mt. Pleasant, SC; granddaughter, Mary-Heather Tatum of Atlanta, GA; Nephew, Philip O'Brien and family of Roswell, GA; Niece, Nadine Link and family of Orlando, FL; and an extraordinary extended family of cousins, neighbors, and lifelong friends. In lieu of flowers, contributions to any of the following would be greatly appreciated; Boston Humane Society, the Leominster Historical Society, or St. James United Methodist Church in Atlanta, GA.
