Patman DOBBINS Obituary

Family-Placed Death Notice

DOBBINS, Patman PATMAN MOORE DOBBINS Patman Moore Dobbins, 95, died peacefully on February 15, 2013. "Pat", born in 1917 in Marietta, was the beloved son of Ethel Moore Dobbins and Patrick Andrew Dobbins and brother of Charles Michael Dobbins. A graduate of Marietta High School, he attended Georgia State and served in the Army Air Corp in the Pacific during World War II from 1942-1945. His brother, Captain Charles Dobbins, was killed in action in 1943 and Dobbins Air Force Base was named in his honor. In 1941 Pat married Helen Jones of Atlanta and together they celebrated 63 years of marriage until her death in 2005. He is survived by two daughters, Beverly Dobbins Hanson (Scott) and Helen Dobbins Weathers (Bill) and four grandchildren, David Scott Hanson III, Michael Dobbins Hanson and Laura Weathers Miller (Barry). He was preceded in death by his grandson, William Jennings Weathers III. Pat's long 45 year career with Ford Motor Company began in 1938 and during this time he and the family were assigned to Dallas, TX, Brussels, Belgium, Bloomfield Hills, MI and then back to Atlanta. His love of golf began at 14 and ended at age 84 after many rounds at Cherokee Country Club. He served for many years on the board of Churches Home Foundation and was a long standing member of Peachtree Presbyterian Church. Pat leaves a legacy of a strong Christian faith, a love for God and deep devotion to his family. He was loved and adored by his four grandchildren and made it a priority to be involved in all their activities. A part of the "Greatest Generation", Pat was a quiet and unassuming Southern gentleman. What a blessing his long life was to his family. A private family memorial service will be held. Pat's favorite charity was The Salvation Army.
