Laurel AHERN Obituary

Family-Placed Death Notice

AHERN, Laurel She "ran with perseverance the race marked out before her" throughout her life - whether on a marathon course, working her career in medical imaging sales, or battling through ovarian cancer for the past two years. Laurel Ahern went home to be with her Lord and Savior on March 30. She was surrounded by her two precious children and immediate family members at the home she loved in Sandy Springs, GA. In her 59-plus years here on earth she blessed the lives of many with her love, light and grace. Her radiant smile and deep compassion will be forever imprinted on the hearts of her loved ones. Ever the coach, teacher and caregiver, Laurel loved well and was well loved as mother, daughter, sister and friend. One could always count on Laurel to be the first to get the dancing started whether at an event with her many colleagues during her years as a thriving sales rep or out on a race course with her running sisters. Laurel regularly volunteered at Spalding Drive Elementary School, Sandy Springs Middle School, and North Springs High School throughout the years that her children attended, always ready to lend a hand. She was involved in middle school ministry at North Point Community Church from 2006-2009. A sports lover, she was a loyal Braves fan and enjoyed college football; most of all, though, she loved cheering for her children on the lacrosse field and helping out in many capacities from score keeping to team mom. Through her final days Laurel continued to focus on others first - she was a joy-giver even as she suffered. Laurel Ahern was born on September 2, 1953 in Middletown, CT. She is survived by her children, Raphael Ford Smith V and Sarah Reeve Smith, her mother Jacqueline Moody Ahern, step father Cleo Audette and loving sisters and brothers. She was preceded in death by her father David Jay Ahern. Donations in her memory can be made to the LAUREL AHERN MEMORIAL FUND, Fidelity Bank, 225 Sandy Springs Circle, NE, Atlanta, GA 30328 A memorial service will be held at North Point Community Church on Friday, April 5 at 11:30 with family visitation from 10:00 to 11:00. My deepest sympathy to the family, I worked with Laurel over the years at both Picker and Toshiba, she became my very good friend and I loved her dearly. We roomed together at sales meetings and trade shows and always had such a good time. I wish we would have kept in closer contact after we no longer worked together. She loved her family dearly and please know that I will continue to pray for her soul and her familys healing during this very difficult time.

Our deepest sympathies to the family. We just found out about it yesterday. Laurel was always willing to lend a helping hand. She was a great sitter for our two cats. Also I will always appreciate her helping me pick out my wedding dress in 2006. We wish that we could have touched base more often. She will be missed!!

Sarah and Ford,
I wanted you both to know how I enjoyed working with your mom during our girl's middle school years at NPCC. We shared the link of Chamblee alumni and enjoyed catching up each Sunday of service. I know her heart was full of love for you both. She was proud of your sports accomplishments, academics and choices you made. Her soft spoken voice and warm heart will be missed by those who knew her.

I knew Laurel in high school, and was fortunate to have renewed acquaintances with her in recent years. She was kind and lovely as a teenager, attributes which she never lost, and I will always have a special affection for her. She is gone too soon, and I pray her family find peace in the love she brought to all she knew.
