FARRELL, John John M. Farrell, Chief Strategy Officer and Vice President of the Coca-Cola Company John M. Farrell was born in West Palm Beach, Florida September 14,1954 the son of John and Jeannie Farrell. With his family's strong support Mr. Farrell valiantly battled cancer for more than a year and died in Atlanta on Monday, with his wife of thirty-four years Linda Wittschiebe Farrell, daughters Katie and Jamie present at his side. In addition to his wife and daughters, Mr. Farrell is survived by his brother Jim Farrell, sister-in-law Sherry Farrell, nephew Jake and his wife Jessica Farrell, niece Morgan Farrell, and father-in-law Captain Donald Wittschiebe. Mr. Farrell was an unwavering champion of Coca-Cola, universally recognized across the business as a visionary, a brilliant strategist and an effective operational leader. A person of deep integrity and knowledge of the Coca-Cola business, he constantly challenged himself and everyone who knew him to refresh their passion for the Coca-Cola business. Mr. Farrell was well known for his intellectual curiosity, his disciplined thinking, his reassuring presence, and was sought out as a trusted advisor and mentor. Joining The Coca-Cola Company in 1979, John began his career in the Company's Bottling Operations. From 1981-1989, John worked in Coca-Cola North America where he held positions in Marketing, Bottler Operations, Fountain and Business Planning. While in Coca-Cola North America, Mr. Farrell and three other colleagues created Diet Coke, which today is a multi-billion dollar brand. Mr. Farrell and his family then spent ten years in Asia, where he led Region Management in Japan and subsequently, as President of Coca-Cola China, based in Hong Kong. From 1999 to 2005 he was based in London, initially as President of Schweppes Beverages, after which he served as director of Business Development and Strategy for Europe, Eurasia and Middle East. In 2005, he returned to Asia to lead the Corporate Strategy and Planning function for the Japan Business Unit. Returning to Atlanta in 2008 as the Company's Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer he helped to architect The Coca-Cola Company's 2020 Vision and the current global planning process. He was generous with his time and his talents. In addition to the support he provided to friends and colleagues, he served on the Board of Trustees of the Darden School of the University of Virginia, and the Advisory Board of the Georgia Institute of Technology. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Johns Hopkins Medicine Urology Department, to support Dr. Trinity Bivalacqua's research in identifying novel biomarkers for early stage bladder cancer.
