JONES, Robert ROBERT THEOPHULUS JONES Mr. Robert Theophulus Jones was born April 7, 1929 in Beaumont, Texas as the fourth of five children of the late Otis and Carrie Lanier Jones. His mother died when he was 7 years old. He and his siblings, Walter, Otis, Guy and Vivian were raised by their aunt and uncle, Nellie and R.T. Jones in Beaumont, grew up and attended school in Beaumont and graduated High School in Berkley, California. As a student, he excelled in academics and music. He graduated from Hampton University in Hampton, Virginia with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in music. At Hampton University he was a member of the school band and orchestra as a saxophone player. While at Hampton University, he was initiated into the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., and maintained his dedication and affiliation with his fraternity throughout his life. After graduation from Hampton University, he entered military service where he served as a commissioned officer with the United States Army, serving in Germany during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Jones later moved to Los Angeles, California where he completed his Masters of Education degree at the University Of Southern California. Mr. Jones had a successful career in education that spanned over many years starting as a teacher at the California Youth Authority's Fred C. Nelles School for Boys, Dean of Boys at Lynwood High School in Lynwood, California, Principal of Hosler Junior High School in Lynwood and the Principal of Lynwood High School, Lynwood, California. His successful career in education concluded in 1991 when he retired as Principal of Lynnwood High School. He later married Purney Bobo Jones and came to live in Stone Mountain, Georgia. Mr. Jones is survived by his wife, Purney, sister, Vivian Gandy of Darlington, South Carolina; daughters, Cecelia Jones of Washington, DC; Alicia Jackson of Pomona, California; and Susan Mitchell of Diamond Bar, California; stepson, Maurice Young of Marietta, Georgia; grandchildren, Moriah Jackson, Marcus Jackson, Eli Jackson, Jennay Mitchell, Leah Mitchell, Nicole Young and Marc Young, and a host of nieces and nephews and other relatives. Memorial services for Mr. Jones will be held at 11:am on May 4, 2013 at Gregory B. Levett & Sons Funeral Home at 914 Scenic Highway, Lawrenceville, GA 30045.
