Celebration of Life Service Saturday, November 9, 2013; 10:00 AM at Shaw Temple A.M.E. Zion Church, 775 Hurt Rd., Smyrna, 30082; Dr. George D. Crenshaw, Officiating. Interment Southview Cemetery. Remains in-state 9:00 AM until hour of service. Cortege assemble 9:00 AM at residence. Viewing TODAY 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Willie A. Watkins Historic West End Chapel. Wake THIS EVENING 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Shaw Temple A.M.E. Zion Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Gate City Day Nursery Association, 2880 Cascade Rd., Atlanta, 30311. Growing up in the 60's I idolized Walt Bellamy. He was my favorite player. When I played in high school my nickname was "Bell" because I always talked about him. Funny, a white boy wanting to be like "Bell". Back then, and even now, color, religion, or where you were born does not matter to me. It is the person that counts. The individual. Walt was, and still is, my favorite. I did not know he had passed until I looked him up on the internet. I am old too now, and maybe I have lived too long with everything that is going on in this world, but I will always remember watching the "Bell" play. My sincere condolences to Walt's Family.

I was Walter's "Chicago Insurance Man".I got to know him when he played with the Chicago Packers (Zephyrs). When I first met Walt he came to my Chicago Office and hit his head on the door jamb.. We often laughed about that and the fact that he loved Simpson Clothiers in Chicago-- because the could fit him!!! My family in Rome, Georgia was so honored to have known Walt. he was very encouraging to my grandsons that plays basketball as well as my mother whom worked for GEORGIA SCHOOL for the deaf that met him. he attended my mother's funeral here in July and it was a pleasure. We will miss him very much.

Your loved one was a wonderful motivator. He served as the speaker during the sports banquet for the students at Frank L. Stanton Elementary School. The students and parents were really inspired by his message. We truly appreciate his willingness and talent to motivate students to become all that they can be, yet admonishing them not to get caught up in false pride. He certainly remained humbled and giving in spite of his fame and success. Additionally, he was one of my husband's good friends and they worked together with the Omega Y's Men.
