Family-Placed Death Notice

BUIK, Sr., Robert Robert Courtney Buik, Sr., age 87, of Duluth, passed away Monday, December 2, 2013 at Golden Living Center in Atlanta. Born in Elizabeth, NJ, October 20, 1926, "Bob," as he was known, served in the Navy from 1944 to 1946, enlisting to join the war in Europe but missing the action by a few months following training. Following his stint in the service, he and his growing family moved around the southeast before finally settling in Atlanta in 1968. Early in his professional career he was a computer programmer, writing code first for the government and then for a pioneering electronics company, before eventually moving into computer sales, which he did for several prominent companies in the 1970s and 1980s. Bob returned to work for the government in the 1990s, working for the IRS until he officially retired in 2011. He will be remembered by his family for the way he battled and overcame illness and setbacks in his later years, and will be remembered by all who knew him as a warm, considerate, selfless father and friend. His many passions included fishing, sports, the beach, and watching his kids and grandkids do just about anything. He is predeceased by brothers Chuck and John, as well as his oldest son, Robert, Jr. He is survived by wife of 61 years Jean, three children: Courtney, David, and Laura, and seven grandchildren: Natalie, George, Savannah, Davis, Hudson, Caroline, and Christian. A memorial service will be held 11 AM Friday, December 27, 2013 in the Chapel of Crowell Brothers Funeral Home with Rev. Frank Crumpler officiating. Per his wishes, Mr. Buik was cremated and his ashes will be interred following the service at 2:30 PM at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA.
