Family-Placed Death Notice

WHITE, Gary Mr. Gary H. White, age 67 of Snellville, passed away early Wednesday morning, January 1, 2014 due to respiratory failure related to recently diagnosed Lupus, after an extended stay at Rockdale Medical Center ICU. Gary was the son of the late Robert "Abe" White and Lucille Hart White. From an early age Gary worked at his family business, White's Bar-Be-Cue, until he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps directly after graduating from Southwest DeKalb High School in 1964. Gary saw combat in the Dominican Republic uprising, and quickly rose to the rank of E5. Upon his discharge from the USMC Gary attended Georgia State University, graduating with a degree in Marketing. He then worked for many years as a real estate broker in the Atlanta area, followed by his service with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, from which he retired in February 2013. Gary was an Eagle Scout and a lifelong Presbyterian serving many years as an ordained Elder. He loved softball, deer hunting, gardening and continually, personally remodeling and upgrading his home. Gary is survived by his wife of 49 years, Elaine Dumas White; his daughter, Connie White Wheeler; and his brother, Avery White. Other survivors include his son-in-law, Bobby Wheeler; grandchildren, Lacey, Dalton, and Jackson Wheeler; sisters-in-law, Carol Dumas Brown, Reba Dumas Campbell; and a large number of nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Gary's life will be held Monday, January 6, 2014 at 3 p.m. at Presbyterian Church of the Resurrection, 3676 Highway 20 NE, Conyers, GA 30013 (770)-922-5553; a reception will follow in the church fellowship hall.
