SPEER, Katherine Katherine "Kay" Abbott Speer, 69, of Atlanta, died Monday, January 20th during an afternoon nap in the sunshine, next to her new mystery novel and her devoted cat, Moose. Kay was born to the late Dan and Katherine Abbott on April 5th, 1944 in Virginia. She graduated from Boone High School in Orlando, FL and received a BA in Architecture/Interior Design from the University of Florida (Go Gators!). Kay cheered, laughed and loved loudly. Among her most beloved people were her college sweetheart, William Speer, son Derek, daughter Gaby, son-in-law Joel, granddaughter Bowie and cat, Moose. Among Kay's most beloved things were dancing to Motown, the Spencer Davis Group, reading every book, crossword puzzles, Carl Hiaasen, her koi fish and collecting chickens. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the Atlanta Community Food Bank. A Memorial Service to celebrate Kay's life will be held at 2 o'clock on Saturday, February 1st at H. M. Patterson & Son, Spring Hill on Spring Street. Online condolences may be made at
