Corrie HENDRIX Obituary

HENDRIX, Corrie Corrie Hoyt Hendrix, born in Atlanta, Georgia on December 9, 1930, passed away January 23, 2015. Corrie was a devoted wife, mother and a proud grandmother. Building and maintaining friendships was a hallmark of her life, and her faith gave her an ability to be an encourager to many people. She received an associate's degree from Stratford College, Danville, Virginia. Corrie completed her bachelor's degree at the University of Georgia, where she was a member of Phi Mu. Following graduation, she taught school in Atlanta and later in Virginia. She married her high school sweetheart, Bill Hendrix, on the day he graduated from Georgia Tech. After a tour of duty with the Army, they settled in Atlanta to start their family. Eventually, they relocated their family to Huntsville, Alabama and later to McLean, Virginia, for Bill's work in support of NASA space programs. Ultimately, Bill and Corrie returned to Atlanta to reestablish ties with long time friends and family. Corrie and Bill loved to travel and visited various locations in Europe, Asia, Central America, Hawaii, Australia and the Caribbean. She enjoyed donating her time to supporting Bulloch Hall in Roswell, Georgia, the Salvation Army and the University Women's Club Book Fairs to provide books for those who could not afford them. She was an active member of Colonial Dames, Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), Cherokee Town and Country Club, The University Yacht Club, as well as various bridge clubs and garden clubs. She was a long time member of the Agape class at Peachtree Presbyterian Church. Corrie was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, and is survived by her two children George and Cille, as well as four successful grandchildren. Memorials may be sent to the George B. Hoyt Scholarship Fund at Presbyterian College, 503 S. Broad Street Clinton, SC 29325, or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, PO Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101-9929.

February 10, 2015

We were so sorry to hear about Corrie. We were friends with Corrie and Bill in the 50s and 1960s before we moved to California. Bill and Denny went to Georgia Tech together and we also were members of the First Presbyterian Church. Please accept our sympathy.
