Chris - Just heard about Patrick from Duffy. I can't imagine the pain you and yours must be going through. I'll never forget how you, in particulàr, helped me get through the night we lost Kirby. It's hard to believe that Patrick is gone. He worked really hard to fight his addiction and I am sad to hear that he lost the battle. My deep condolences to his family and friends.

My condolences to the family,
I have fond memories of rooming with your son at Academy of Swift River. We have lost touch over the years and I myself struggled with the disease of addiction. I was lucky to get sober 7 years ago and have been advocating for Recovery recently with efforts aimed at college students. Patrick reached out to me last year but didn't specifically confide in any issues; just that he liked what I was doing. I applaud your transparency in this obituary. Too often this is something that is swept under the rug because of the stigma associated with the disease of addiction. This is a disease like anything else and it does not discriminate. I am saddened by this news whenever this happens but am glad he doesn't have to struggle anymore. I would love to figure out a way to honor his life in the efforts being done to help young people in recovery here in Charleston if the family is interested.

I didn't know Patrick as a teenager or adult, but I remember fondly the adorable little boy who used to come see his Dad at work from time to time. Warm memories of a precious child. I am so sorry for the terrible loss of this young life cut short. I didn't know Patrick or your family, but his beaming face in the AJC caught my husband's eye. We left the paper on the kitchen island in hopes that our 16 year old son, who has recently begun down a destructive path, might notice it as well. We saw him surreptitiously reading the article after lunch today. I believe that Patrick touched and impacted a young life today, and I thought you might like to know.

I met Brother Patrick in the promises unit at Hazelden Betty Ford in February of 2014. Patrick and I became good friends in a short time. Patrick will always hold a special place in my heart and recovery. God bless Patrick and his friends and family.
