Mary Wesley Obituary

WESLEY, Mary Phillips Mary Phillips Wesley, 84 of Sandy Springs, died February 23, 2016. Mrs. Wesley was a generous and vibrant woman who above all was dedicated to her family. She was an avid painter and enjoyed painting landscapes and shared them on greeting cards with her friends. Mary was a life-long Methodist coming from a family of Methodist minsters and was a 35 years member of Sandy Springs United Methodist Church. Mrs. Wesley along with her husband was a philanthropist and was a dedicated contributor to The Candler School of Theology at Emory University, The Ivan Allen College and School of Biomedical Engineering at Georgia Tech. She was preceded in death by her brother, Herschel Asbury Phillips, Jr. and sister, Bertha Viola Long. Survivors include her husband of 62 years, James W. "Jim" Wesley, Jr.; sons, James Alan Wesley (Irene), David Wyatt Wesley (Molly); grandsons, James William Wesley (Caroline), David Tyler Wesley (Stacie), David Christian Wesley, Daniel Robison Wesley; and brothers-in-law, Rev. Richard B. Long, David Lane Poston (Cathy). In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Sandy Springs United Methodist Church, 86 Mount Vernon Hwy., Sandy Springs, GA 30328. The family will receive friends Thursday, February 25, 2016 from 6 to 8 o'clock at H.M. Patterson and Son, Arlington Chapel, 173 Allen Rd., NE, Sandy Springs, GA 30328. A memorial service will be Friday, February 26, 2016 at 11 o'clock at Sandy Springs United Methodist Church with Rev. Thomas Martin and Rev. Richard B. Long officiating.
