Mike was an inspirational mentor for me. I served in the Parasitic Diseases branch of the CDC Epidemic Intelligence Service in the mid-1970s. Because of Mike's prescient commitment to releasing rarely required anti-infective drugs, we recognized to emergence of the HIV-AIDS epidemic in light of the sudden need for release of pentamidine for an AIDS complication, pneumocystis carinii pneumonia in San Francisco and other locales of this illness. He encouraged our branch to investigate unusual and rare outbreaks: I went to Texas to check out Leishmaniasis, to California to investigate that last mosquito spread epidemic of Malaria in the US, and to Arizona to investigate Chagas' disease prevalence and clinical impact among the Toto Indian population. Mike's intellectual oversight of our written output was meticulous: the paper on our investigation of the Rome, NY giardiasis epidemic was invaluable. He was a lovely, gentle man to work with and learn from.

Condolences to you Selma and family on Myron's passing. My husband Milt z"l and I had fond memories of the times we shared in Atlanta in the seventies. May you be comforted by remembering his goodness and his accomplishments.

I am very saddened to read of Myron's passing. He and I were high school classmates. Although it has been 64 years, I remember him as a nice, nice, person, quiet and serious. He truly helped to make this world a better place. The void left by his passing cannot be filled, but I hope that good memories and the thoughts and concerns of others can bring some measure of comfort.
