Merl REED Obituary

REED, Merl E. Merl E. Reed, 90 died at his home in Dekalb County on July 26, 2016. Born in Syracuse, New York on August 14, 1925, Merl Reed was the son of Maude and Earl Reed. After service in World War II, he received two degrees from Syracuse University and a doctorate in American History from Louisiana State University. He taught at Texas Women's University and Ball State University in Indiana before joining the faculty of Georgia State University in 1965. Author and co-editor of several books, Reed retired in 1994. He was active in service to the school, helping to set up a credit union as well as an archive of labor history at the GSU library. He was also active in community affairs, serving as president of the Druid Hills Civic Association for two terms in the 1980's. Reed is survived by his wife, Germaine Reed, a son, a daughter, their spouses and one grandchild.

As you celebrate a life well lived, (90yrs), may your hearts be filled with joy and laughter, as you recall all the "happy "times you shared together (Psalm 90:10). My condolences to the family.
