William HALL Obituary

HALL, Jr., William V. William V. Hall, Jr known as Bill Hall, passed peacefully in his sleep on January, 17th 2017. He was 76 years old. Born in Athens, GA Bill moved to Atlanta with his family: William V. Hall, Sr, Tommye Sue Davis Hall, and brother, Peter D. Hall. He graduated from The Westminster School, attended Sewanee: The University of the South for undergrad, and received his law degree from Emory University Law School. In 1964, he was admitted to the Georgia Bar Association and launched his career in the Public Defender's office before entering private practice. From 1970 to 2014, his Decatur office saw clients from all walks of life. Bill was well-respected and well liked in his field. He had an egalitarian approach to the law: he believed that everyone, no matter their ability to pay, deserved good representation. A champion for many low income clients, he never charged "billable hours " often telling his secretary not to waste a stamp on a bill he knew could not be paid. As a successful and accomplished litigator, he won over judge and jury with his infectious courtroom persona that made full use of his sharp intellect and genial, story-telling style. In the '70's he coached the State Champion Red Devils in the Pop Warner League. He also spent many years in the Rebel Bass Club with good friends and fellow outdoorsmen. His many loves included his daughters, hunting and fishing, the Single Action Shooting Society (Hardbark Harry) and of course his dogs. Upon the demise of one such animal, he told his then wife, that he had not always had a wife, but he always had a dog. Bill is survived by his daughters: Jessica Hall McMaster, her husband Brian and their sons Sean and Andy, and Jennifer Hall Kaas, her husband Michael and their daughters Amanda and Chloe, and niece Kelly Hall Taylor and great nephew Owen Taylor. Finally, Bill leaves behind his beloved Suzanne. Daddy, your love, generosity and humor will live on in us all. We will miss you always. To a dear old friend:
In keeping it short, you always needed for it to be short;), I was thinking of you this morning and said a prayer for you, curiosity made me google you and this is what I found..too sad for words. Bill, you were one of a kind, always generous and helped me for over 30 years, even when I didn't deserve your kindness, I only wish I would have told you so and apologized for the times I was so difficult, but you never waivered, God sends the right people at the right time, you were my legal guardian angel, I am forever grateful, as my family, and I just hope one day I will get to hear one of your stories again..Love you and will miss you greatly old friend.
