Family-Placed Death Notice

Thomas M. Burns (Tom), 66, died July 29th, 2004 at his residence in Fort Pierce, FL. He was born in Susquehanna, PA and had lived in Fort Pierce since 1998. He spent 35 years working for IBM, spending time in Endicott, NY, Poughkeepsie, NY, Macon, GA and Boca Raton, FL, before retiring in his longtime home of Atlanta, GA. Mr. Burns was a graduate of and star baseball and basketball player at Laurel Hill Academy and received his degree from Marist College. Mr. Burns was a devoted husband and father. He was an avid fisherman and an Atlanta Braves baseball fan. He enjoyed surfing the web, cruising the seas, and traveling, particularly to his chosen ancestral home of Ireland. Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Betsy Carey Burns, daughter Lisa Peddar of Atlanta, daughter Pamela Burns of Edgewater, NJ, a son Thomas Burns of Atlanta, GA, and his son-in-law, John Peddar of Atlanta, GA and his daughter-in-law, Diane Burns, also of Atlanta, GA. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Cecilia Burns. Memorial contributions may be made to your local chapter of the American Heart Association. Services: A memorial mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 4th, at St. Jude The Apostle Catholic Church in Sandy Springs. Haisley-Hobbs Funeral Home, Inc., in Fort Pierce, FL, is in charge of arrangements.
