Family-Placed Death Notice

Graveside services for Robert Ogden Persons, Jr., 75, will be held on Thursday, March 1, 2007, at two o'clock, at the Forsyth City Cemetery with the Rev. Ken Stephens and the Rev. Malcolm Cole Davis officiating. Mr. Persons passed away on Monday, February 26, 2007. Mr. Persons was the son of the late Robert Ogden Persons, Sr., and Louise Kendrick Persons. He was born on November 4, 1931 in Forsyth, Georgia. He was a graduate of Darlington School in Rome where he served as a Lifetime Trustee. He received his BA degree from the University of the South, Sewanee where he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity. Mr. Persons earned an MBA from Emory School of Business, was a member of the Gridiron Secret Society at the University of Georgia and a member of the Gordon Junior College Foundation. He served as a Lieutenant in the U. S. Navy. Mr. Persons was Chairman of the Board of The Farmers Bank, Forsyth, served on the Middle Georgia Area Planning and Development Commission, the Monroe County Chamber of Commerce, served as Chairman of Downtown Development Authority and was active in all aspects in the life of the City of Forsyth. Mr. Persons was a member of the Forsyth United Methodist Church and served as Chairman of the Building Committee after the church was destroyed by fire. Survivors include his wife, Eva Turpin Persons; sons Robert Ogden Persons, III, (Lisa), and Brantley T. Persons (Jacquie); grandchildren Robert and Sophie Persons and Hayden and Weston Persons; a brother G. Ogden Persons, II, of Perry, and several nieces and nephews including G. Ogden Persons, III, James Gillis Persons and Katherine Persons Kelly. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 28, from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the Persons Farm, (2.2 miles from the Courthouse) 1376 Old Atlanta Highway (U. S. 41, North), Forsyth, GA.The family requests that memorials be made to Forsyth United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 108, Forsyth, GA 31029, or American Lung Association of Georgia, 2542 Spring Road, Smyrna, GA 30080. Snow's Memorial Chapels, Cherry Street, Macon has charge of arrangements.
