Family-Placed Death Notice

DR. OLLIE MABRY DODGEN, DVM Dr. O.M. Dodgen, age 88, of Cobb County, GA, died December 17, 2007 at the Upson Regional Medical Center. Dr. Dodgen was born September 4, 1919, the son of the late Roy N. and Cleo Mabry Dodgen of Cobb County. He was preceded in death by his wife, Grace Brisco Dodgen and brother, Robert Marion Dodgen. Dr. Dodgen is survived by his daughter Gail McIntyre and her husband, Bruce of Stone Mountain, GA; granddaughters Nikki Finlay and Jeanne McIntyre; grandson, Brian McIntyre; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Charles H. Dodgen and J. Dorsey Dodgen; sister, Carolyn Dodgen Meadows and six nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held Friday, December 21st at 12 Noon in the chapel at H.M.Patterson & Son, Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton at 2 pm. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6-8 pm at the funeral home. Dr. Dodgen served his country as a U.S. Marine during World War II in the Pacific theater, including the Battle of Guadalcanal and was honorably discharged at the end of the war. He then returned to Cobb County. "Doc" Dodgen was a graduate of the University of Georgia School of Veterinary Medicine and practiced in the Calhoun, GA area for a number of years. He then joined the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture in the Inspection Division with assignments in Georgia, Washington and Texas. Doc was an avid sportsman and very active in Benchrest Target shooting. In his later years he mostly shot 22 cal. Rimfire competitions and in 1996 he won the NBRSA Rimfire National Championship at the young age of 76.
