Donald Ross Havens passed away peacefully on Nov. 15, 2013 at the Caring Acres Nursing and Rehab in Anita where he had resided for 3 and 1/2 years. A memorial gathering to celebrate the life of Don will be held on Saturday, Nov. 23 at the Wiota Fire Station from 1 - 4 p.m.

Donald Ross Havens was born on July 30, 1929, at home, south of Atlantic to Ross and Nellie (Johnson) Havens. He graduated from Wiota High School with the class of 1948.
He was married to Barbara Ann Aldag on Feb. 8, 1949. To this union was born daughter Nancy and son Steven. Don and his father, Ross had a trucking company and later he delivered feed for Walnut Grove Products. He operated the Wiota Oil Company, was a salesman for Nelsen Automotive, Z-4 Chemical of Kansas City, and Britt Tech Co. of Britt. He operated the Wiota Car Wash Company for several years. He was a partner in several car washes. During his years as a Wiota resident, he was a volunteer fireman and served as the fire chief for several years. He was a member of the Atlantic Jaycees and Zion Lutheran Church.
On Nov. 25, 1972, Don married Coleene Nelson. They lived in Cedar Falls where he founded the Hydro-Spray Car Wash Company for the manufacture, sales, and service of automatic car wash equipment. He sold that company in 1996 and established Water Perfect, a car wash water treatment company.
Throughout his 40-year career in the car wash industry, Don was an innovator and leader across the United States. He was active in the Heartland Car Wash Association and International Car Wash Association. His leadership was recognized with many awards in the car wash industry.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Pauline (Bus) Edwards of Cumberland and step-daughter Traci Nelson (Larry) Tieskoetter of Ossian.
Don is survived by his children: Nancy (Ted) Sojka of Decorah and Steven (Linda) Havens of Wiota; son-in-law Larry Tieskoetter; sister Margery Bates of Underwood and brother Lawrence (Kathy) Havens of Wiota; grandchildren Nicole (Tony) Weers of Bellevue, Neb., Stefanie (Bryan) Welch of Lisbon, Mark (Lyndsey) Havens of Harlan, Charlie Sojka & friend Katey of Iowa City and Michael Sojka of Ames, Iowa; 12 great-grandchildren, ex-wife and friend Coleene Havens of Tama; nieces, nephews and friends.
Cremation service was provided by Iowa Cremation Society. Memorials for Don will be given to the Wiota Fire Department,
