Mass of Christian Burial for Gertrude M. Honke, age 94 of Atlantic, formerly of Butte, Neb., will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 3, 2014, at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Butte. Reverend Doug Scheinost will be Celebrant, with burial in the Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Cemetery at Butte. Visitation will be two hours prior to services at the Church, with a 10 a.m. Rosary.
Brockhaus Funeral Home of Spencer, Neb., is in charge of arrangements.
Gertrude died Thursday, June 26, 2014, at Alegent-Bergan Mercy Medical Center in Omaha.
Gertrude Marie (Lueken) Honke, daughter of Henry and Rose (Wiedman) Lueken, was born Sept. 28, 1919, at Winner, South Dakota. Gertrude grew in the Winner area, where she attended Winner Public Schools. On May 30, 1944, Gertrude was married to Paul Honke in Winner. The couple was blessed with six children: Carolyn, Janice, Shirley, Paul, Gregg, and Keith.
During her lifetime, Gertrude lived in several locations including Winner in South Dakota, and Butte and Naper in Nebraska, where she was a mother and farm wife. In later years, Gertrude moved to Atlantic, to be near family.
Gertrude was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Atlantic, and was a member of the Altar Society of Sacred Heart Church at Naper, Neb. As her husband Paul was a veteran, Gertrude was a member of the VFW Auxiliary. She died June 26, 2014, at Bergan Mercy Medical Center in Omaha, attaining the age of 94 years, eight months, and 29 days.
Gertrude is survived by her daughters, Carolyn (Larry) Swanda of Granger, and Shirley (Wenlyn) Lindeman of Iowa Falls; sons, Gregg (Karla) Honke of Carroll, Paul J. Honke of Atlantic, and Keith (Gina) Honke of Atlantic; son-in-law, Willard Dummer of Spencer; sister, Cecelia Larson of Flower Mound, Texas; 16 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul H. Honke; and her daughter, Janice Dummer.
